Client: Warrens Backyard
Launch Date: March 2016
Warrens Backyard is a wedding and event venue located in Granbury, Texas. Joni and Steve Berry inherited the property and and the land and decided to turn it into a beautiful rustic venue. They now host many types of events from weddings to family reunions to vendor fairs. They wanted the look and feel to match the rustic yet romantic feel that the venue encompassed. Because they were a new business they wanted to keep the budget cost effective. I was able to use a pre-built theme and customize it to their liking, as well as design their business cards.
Design Part 1 – Style Guide
When designing the style guide I wanted it to look as if nature was meeting romance with a rustic chic feel. I used images with reclaimed food, a script font as the header with a modern font that was easy to read. I incorporated a deep red color that was pulled from a photo of a rustic red barn door with pops of green for nature.
Design Part 2 – Business Cards
Business cards are often the first thing some potential clients see when meeting them. I wanted the business cards to give a unique feel that aligned with the design of the website.
Content Strategy and Research
The client needed help with the content of the site as they were a new business, so I helped them do market research and research on the UX of other event venue websites. After doing research I was able to help them come up with relevant content and guide them in the right direction of what they should include on the site.
Design Part 3 – Sketches and Site Navigation Design
The sketches involved sketching out the homepage and interior pages of the site with slight customizations to the Genesis Studiopress theme. I also designed the site navigation as well as outlined some different elements I would need to incorporate into the website.
While developing the site I configured the Genesis theme on WordPress and styled it with CSS. I also built forms on Gravity Forms for vendor fair registrants to register online, which was able to save the client time and money by not having to collect hand written mailed in forms. I also incorporated several image galleries to showcase the venue and an event calendar so that the schedule was readily available to the public. Overall the client was very satisfied with the website and continues to get registrants and contact forms filled out on the website on a regular basis, which shows the success of the site thus far.
