Standard Beagle started a Podcast at the beginning of 2016. No one on our team had ever recorded a podcast, edited, or produced one before. This was a new challenge for us and one we were ready to tackle to get our creative juices flowing while also increasing our marketing efforts. I was tasked with the challenge of learning how to edit our podcasts on Adobe Audition. I also created graphics for the podcast in Photoshop.
I started by researching other Podcasts that I enjoyed listening to. I found out what they were doing to be successful, as well as reached out to some podcasters to ask for advice. After I collected the research I was able to outline a plan to create graphics for each podcast to be used as the featured image to be shared out onto all of our social platforms and our company website. I also decided to send out a weekly newsletter to subscribers with highlights from the podcast, as well as a link to the post with even more about that week’s podcast.
After a podcast is recorded I am given the raw file to edit within Adobe Audition. From there I am able to cut out unnecessary parts or interruptions. I then import the edited track into the mixdown where I have my intro music and outros. Finally, I export the podcast via Adobe Audition and upload it to the server where we post it to our website and other platforms.
For each podcast, I create a graphic in Photoshop, write a blog post about the podcast, develop an HTML newsletter and upload it to Mailchimp, test it on Litmus for responsiveness, and then schedule the newsletter and blog post for Tuesday of every week. We found that Tuesday was a better day than Monday to gain listeners and for engagement with our posts. This has been a really fun project because I love listening to podcasts in my spare time, and it’s been great way to expand my creative skill sets even further.
